GPs: Behind Closed Doors is a documentary series that takes us inside the heart of a local doctors surgery. By fitting a fixed camera rig to the consulting rooms of a local GP surgery, we are given exclusive access to the staff and patients who pass through the surgery every day.

Doctors’ surgeries have never been under more pressure dealing with conditions ranging from terminal illnesses to ingrown toe nails. They deal with 90% of the NHS workload, yet only get 10% of the funding. Each episode will cover one week in the surgery, to give viewers an insight into what life is actually like on a day-to-day basis – from the volume and range of medical problems to the pressures the support team at the surgery are under.

Doctors, nurses and health care professionals are some of the hardest working people in the country, and the system and pressures they work under are often mis-understood by the patients who visit them. This series provides a unique and sensitive insight into one of our country’s most important institutions.
